Council event celebrates hopping on your bike

Transport for Slough hosted a free event dedicated to all things cycling at Bath Road Central’s Events Plaza this month.

Better by… bike had a wide range of bikes to try out, from KMX karts, retro choppers, road bikes, electric bikes and tandems; to a rather special smoothie-making bike!

The blender bike sat welcome for those to peddle on, and the more energy it generated, the faster the fruity concoctions were made.

In addition to the varying bikes to try out, there was a complimentary bike surgery, offering people the opportunity to get their bikes checked over.

The event was part of the Better by… campaign, which aims to encourage people of all ages to use this environmentally-friendly form of travel, while improving their fitness, saving money and time on the daily commute; and enabling residents to explore new places in the borough.

Councillor Martin Carter, cabinet member for planning and transport, said: “We are hoping that Better by… bike might inspire people to make the switch from car to bike, which could ultimately improve the wellbeing of those living and working in our community and the environment around them.”
